The Homebrew Digest Archives -
To subscribe to the Hombrew Digest, send your requests to
homebrew-request@hpfcmr.hp.com.
Most files are compressed or ziped so don't forget to set binary
mode before transfering files via ftp.
Files with a .Z suffix are compressed with the "compress" program.
If you request a .Z suffixed file by leaving off the .Z then
Sierra's ftp daemon will uncompress the file before transfering.
Otherwise, to uncompress the .Z files, you'll need the "uncompress"
program. If your system does not have "uncompress" there is a
version available in pub/sources as 'compress.shar' (or via
listserv by "get sources compress.shar").
Files with a .zip suffix are "zipped" with PKZIP or something
compatible. You'll need the equivalent to "unzip" them.
Files with the .uu suffix are uuencoded binary files. They are
usually files that have been compressed or zipped (e.g. *.Z.uu, or
*.zip.uu). You will need the 'uudecode' program, available in
pub/sources as 'uudecode.c' (or via listserv by "get sources
uudecode.c").
Files with the .ps extension are PostScript files.
Listserver users should read the comments at the end of this file.

The Listserver --
Ftp is the prefered method of accessing the archives but if this is
not possible for you than Sierra's listserver can be used to send
files to your account via e-mail.
All but a few files may be retreived via mail by sending a request to
the listserver at listserv@Sierra.Stanford.EDU (image files are not
presently accessable). The directory structure appears to be very
different for listserver access so one should use the INDEX command to
get a copy of the names of available files. The listserver only
supports the HELP, INDEX, and GET commands and should be used in the
following manner. (NOTE: This software is VERY picky.)
To get a list of the files available from the Homebrew archives send:
INDEX HOMEBREW
To get files from the archives you need to send one or more lines
like the following:
GET HOMEBREW filename
where "filename" is one of the files listed by the INDEX HOM
